Synopsis Jean Cocteau (5 July 1889- 11 Oct 1963)- French poet, playwright, designer, filmmaker- is considered to be one of the tallest and most important cultural figures of the 20th century. As a tribute to Jean Cocteau we shall be screening his film Orphée ! Prof. Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay (eminent film scholar and cultural analyst) has agreed to deliver a talk on Jean Cocteau. It is imperative to note that Prof. Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay had translated some of Cocteau’s screenplays into Bengali and they had been received with great enthusiasm among the intelligentsia in Calcutta. His translation of ‘Orpheus’ has just been brought out in book form by ‘Prativas’ publication . We can formally inaugurate this book on the day of the program. This evening brings to fore the Indo-French cultural connect but especially the long tradition of the Bengali-French cultural connect. Please join us for this evening.
