Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, Kolkata, Alliance française du Bengale & Culture Monks present Theatre Adda August 2025 session titled “The Theatre of Sri Aurobindo Ghosh”.

We commemorate the birthday of Sri Aurobindo Ghosh through lectures and a series of short performances.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Prof. Gautam Ghosal, Ph.D, D.Litt whose area of specialization is Sri Aurobondo. Biswajit Ganguly will deliver the introductory speech. It will be followed by performances by Sukriti Lahori and Culture Monks.

About Gautam Ghosal

Goutam Ghosal, Ph.D., D.Litt., is former Professor and Head at the Department of English, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. Ghosal has worked on multiple aspects of Sri Aurobindo for ove five decades, writing, and lecturing extensively in India and abroad. Among the latest of his contributions, are two co-edited volumes, one on Shakespeare and the other on James Cousins seminal book, NEW WAYS IN ENGLISH LITERATURE, reprinted first after 1917 , a book which Sri Aurobindo reviewed and expanded as The Future Poetry. Ghosal is now Professor of English at Seacom Skills University, Santiniketan and a Governing Board Member of Auroville Foundation (under Ministry of Education).

About Sukriti Lahori

Sukriti Lahori, Associate Professor of Bengali
at Victoria Institution College, has been teaching here since 1999. She graduated in Bengali from Presidency College and later earned her MA and M.Phil degrees from the University of Calcutta. In 2017, she received her Ph.D. from Jadavpur University, with a thesis titled “Bengali Theatre: Women in Direction (1943-2003)”.

Apart from teaching, Sukriti is also an accomplished actress. She joined the renowned Bengali group theatre organization “Bahurupee” in 1985 and performed in various plays under the direction of Kumar Roy, including “Aguner Pakhi,” “Malini,” “Mr. Kakatua,” “Galileo,” “Phullaketur Pala ” etc. She also worked with the theatre group “Kolkata Bahuswar” and performed in the Bengali adaptation of Girish Karnad’s “Broken Images,” titled “Bhanga Bhanga Chhobi.” It is her solo acting.

Sukriti is a skilled voice actor and has worked with All India Radio, Kolkata. She has also acted in serials, OTT series, and films. Her essays and articles on theatre have been published in various books and newspapers.

In her personal life, Sukriti has been inspired by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother since her childhood and strives to follow their ideals throughout her life.

Theatre Adda are monthly sessions of critical and diverse thoughts connected to theatre as well as for experimental performances in theatre and allied fields. This has been been jointly organized by Alliance Française du Bengale & Culture Monks for the past decade.

The next session – September 2025 session of Theatre Adda will be held on September 1, 2025 and it will be based on Jibananda Das.
