iLOGY : quantum storytelling & performance

Welcome to the iLOGY quantum storytelling & performance retreat in East Sikkim, India from December 28, 2025 to January 2, 2026.

The workshop will be conducted by Janardan Ghosh, Sudipto Dawn & Bibhas.

Sikkim has its ups and downs, like our lives. As you stand at the edge of one of the cliffs and shout ‘i’, what comes back as an echo is the ‘I’ you realise or perceive… The echo is the identity we carry from place to place… the echo in your office is different from the one in your bedroom. Echo is what returns with the smell of the river, touch of the mountain or the light of the sky… and so, we always dwell in the i of the past; the I that returns. The “I” is never solitary, always arrives home with the company of experiences, events and encounters, and the memory of those who walked with you. This residency treats identity as relational: the self as a moving ‘sangam’ of culture and ecology. Drawing on Indian aesthetic thought, bhava to rasa, we work with personal memories braided with ritual, objects, and stories. We ask the question again, as the ancient Rishis did: Who am I?

In the hills, time is slower and more porous. The flags, mist, moraine, glacial streams and the village paths make the environment a co-participant. We’ll practice deep but low‑impact making, attentive walking, and dialogic performance that listens to the terrain, the unpredictable weather, the local knowledge and the ‘i’. The aim is a compact suite of micro‑performances and a small “legacy” artefact gifted to our own selves.

Janardan

This workshop is a trail into the depth of memory to find the events, myths and stories which shaped or is shaping the self and the ways in which we realize these and how we can transmit these experiences through story performances. The path is mystical and is inspired by the Indian performance methods as well the experience of post dramatic theatre and performance art practices. The retreat is set amongst the silence of mountains by the river in a resort. and will be an unique experience of self discovery and creativity. The settings also provide an opportunity to do site specific performances.

A few things to expect:

  • 5 days of intense focused work including movement, voice in scripting the story.
  • Sessions by local storytellers & folk artists.
  • Visits and nearby sites of interest & short treks.
  • Celebrate New Year’s eve in the wilderness
  • Final performance

Please note that the facilities at the resort will be in twin sharing basis in double rooms. Both veg/non veg food will be available made from organic produce

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. The nearest airport is Bagdogra. The retreat is around 4 hours from Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri or Bagdogra airport.

However you can also come to Kolkata and we can go together by train and taxi which will take around 18 hours ex Kolkata.

About the facilitators

Janardan Ghosh is brilliant story performer, scriptwriter, film actor and a theater practitioner for over 30 years. He has worked with several renowned theatre & film director and teachers from around he world. He holds a PHD In performance studies and has published several research papers related to Indian performance philosophy.

Bibhas is a theatre practicioner who xcels in physical or non verbal theatre. He has been junior fellow (theatre) under the Ministry of Culure, India. He has also worked with several renowned theatre directors & forms to hone his skills.

Sudipto is an independent artistic researcher, theatre practitioner, film maker and has conceptualized and managed several art projects involving artists from round the world.
