Kolkata Tour of Ma Tan (Matan Berkowitz) :

Kolkata has been one of the most significant cities in the world from the context of creativity, intellectuality & scientific discovery. A city which boasts of many Nobel prize winners is definitely gifted with people with enormous potential for excellence.

Israel is known as technology leader in the world and Matan’s award winning work is a great representation of this spirit of innovation: combining art, tech and positive impact.
The coming tour will bring together the city of Kolkata to the fast evolving and dynamic technological think set for innovation.

Matan will be delivering lectures to college, university students apart from budding entrepreneurs in course of this tour. He will also be conducting a workshop with entrepreneurs and youngsters apart from interacting with the young artists and thinkers from the city.

The tour will open up a new portal for greater understanding amongst the youth of Kolkata about the contemporary culture and the innovative & dynamic spirit of Israel. Greater number of collaborations could emerge in the future due to such an interaction which bodes well for India- Israeli friendship.

Matan lives in the nexus of art, technology and positive impact.  His award-winning inventions translate physical signals (such as brainwaves, heartbeats and movements) into music, turn everyday objects into instruments and have been displayed at museums, galleries, events and stages worldwide.

Matan regularly speaks and performs for the likes of TEDx, Google Day, Microsoft Think Next, Forbes Under 30 Summit, Re:Publica and Music Tech Fest.

His presentations often combine live musical demos of his inventions, while his unique workshops focus on Rapid Innovation – turning ideas into reality quickly and effectively, without relying on technology.

As the founder of Shift, a company which specializes in impact-driven innovation, Matan co-developed solutions for people with disabilities: enabling paralyzed, amputee, blind and autistic musicians to express themselves in new ways.

His latest project, the Airstrument, which translates hand movements into music, is currently being developed and tested at hospitals as a bio-feedback device for rehabilitation, after graduating from a European Union incubator and the Mass Challenge global accelerator.

Featured in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list of most promising young Israelis in science & technology, Matan is an alumni of The Generational Ambassadors Program (MIT &
Harvard), U-Penn’s Social Global Impact House & an ROI Community member.

About the Lecture

Matan’s inventions translate physical signals like brainwaves, heartbeats and motion into music, turn everyday objects into musical instruments, and enable people with disabilities to express themselves in new ways.
In between touring the world as a public speaker for the likes of TEDx, Google, Forbes, and Microsoft and creating interactive art installations for museums and galleries, Matan is coming to Kolkata to share some of his projects, methods and insights. The talk includes a live musical demo.
