I hold this letter in my hand
A plea, a petition, a kind of prayer
I hope it does as I have planned
Losing her again is more than I can bear
I kiss the cold, white envelope
I press my lips against her name
Two hundred words. We live in hope
The sky hangs heavy with rain

Love Letter Love Letter
Go get her Go get her
Love Letter Love Letter
Go tell her Go tell her

Love Letters, Nick Cave

संतप्तानां त्वमसि शरणं तत्पयोद प्रियायाः ।
सन्देशं मे हर धनपतिक्रोधविश्लेषितस्य ॥

(“O Cloud, you are the refuge of the afflicted; therefore, bear a message from me to my beloved, I who have been separated [from her] by the wrath of the Lord of Wealth.”)

Medghdutta, Kalidasa

Letters – the kind which were penned on paper and slipped into those quaint letters boxes, which, like much of the cultural memory and ecology are now relics of the past. Then one waited for what now seems an eternity for a reply.

In this current iteration of iLOGY story performance workshop we reflect upon the rasa – Love (Shringara) in its many aspects, consider how its related to cultural memory & ecological consciousness and where it takes us in the future. The workshop is about unearthing & re – living the memories associated with this rasa – Love and how it shapes us (self), to find & re activate that self and try out ways to tell & perform the story reflecting on ancient treatise and philosophy related to aesthetics & performance from India to aid in the process.

So come join us for this experience through 3 weeks at the iLOGY online workshop called Love Letters.

iLOGY Quantum Storytelling & Performance Workshop is a space for embodied storytelling and performance practice that explores the architecture of the self, cultural memory, and ecology. Rooted in theatrical practice, Indian philosophical traditions —and drawing particularly from the Nāṭyaśāstra, the foundational treatise on dramaturgy and performance—the workshop invites participants to investigate how identity is shaped through body, memory, imagination, and place.

More about iLOGY praxis

iLOGY quantum story performance workshop is a space of enquiry where stories are not simply told—they are discovered, remembered, and performed through the body. Here, performance becomes an act of becoming; memory is not something retrieved from the past but something lived, transformed, and shared in the present.

Through embodied exploration, participants investigate their sense memory, cultural memory, and lived experience of the monsoon to create original performances rooted in personal and collective histories. These histories are understood not as fixed narratives but as living ecologies that continue to shape who we are and who we are becoming.

Drawing upon the aesthetic principles of the Nāṭyaśāstra, the experiential pathways of Tantrāloka, Vaishnava traditions of Bhakti, and contemporary postdramatic theatre, iLOGY brings together Indian knowledge systems and contemporary performance practices in a unique methodology of creative enquiry.

Rather than reconstructing the past or imagining a predetermined future, iLOGY cultivates anubhuti—direct lived experience. Through the memories as both metaphor and material reality, participants explore the intertwined ecologies of body, memory, place, and performance, creating works that emerge from lived experience rather than representation.

The iLOGY quantum story performance invites artists, educators, researchers, performers, and anyone interested in creative self-enquiry to experience performance as a practice of transformation.

If you would like to attend a weekday batch not listed here please connect with us through the form mentioning the day. Weekday batches are possible after 6 pm (IST).

Testimonials

Thank you once again for this wonderful workshop and the opportunity to receive guidance from you (Sudipto) and Janardan. It has been truly inspiring and reflective, and I have learnt many things over these three to four sessions. Thank you both for providing a space where I could share my thoughts freely and for offering inspiration and guidance in expanding my work. I am very grateful for this and will share with you all once the work has evolved into a bigger performance. I look forward to working with you both again in the future. I’ve included the video of my performance and the text in this email.

“Was great, and really mind triggering :)” – Michaela Broeckx

“Great. Thanks a ton. Your work is wonderful and you conducted it very well. Thanks a ton. There is a higher power doing all this” – Vanitha Muthukumar

” Earlier this month I had participated in another workshop of Story Telling organised by Cultural Monks. It was a wonderful experience, learnt a lot. Thank u culture Monks. You are doing a great work for the community”. – Lipika

So these are my biggest takeaways from the workshop.

Personal Learnings:
1.) The importance of warmup before any performance. This can be applied to any area in life. Eg: Everyday is a performance for me personally , so I do 15 mins of breathing based guided meditation daily; first thing in the morning before I start the day. This practice was reinforced & validated through the lessons during the workshop as I clearly felt more relaxed and “in the flow” after performing them.

2.) Through the critiquing session feedback, it was very clear that I had a lot of work to do on my editing skills while structuring any narrative. As I mentioned in the workshop, I have been repeatedly told this before, by many of my mentors, friends & colleagues. I’ve made improvements in this domain from the past but obviously I’m still a work in progress!! This workshop was an important reminder to spend more time on my editing chops!!

3.) ( This one is completely my personal viewpoint ) The most important story that you’ll tell is your OWN. The more comfortable we get owning up our OWN LIFE STORY, with all it’s imperfections, blemishes & vulnerabilities; the more we can connect authentically with others. We as humans, crave connection over concepts. We prefer the Raw & Real over Polished & Processed. We embrace simplicity over sophistication. In fact as someone famous said, ” Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

I put this to practice intentionally through my tasks at the workshop. Did the authenticity resonate with you folks? That part can only be answered by you! Let me know.

I would love to hear from the other participants about their personal experiences. And from the mentors / masters as well. Thank You.
